TL;DR
Laboratory Analyst (Polarized Light Microscopy) (Asbestos Analysis/LIMS): Analyzing bulk asbestos samples using polarized light microscopy, reviewing data, and reporting laboratory results with an accent on quality control, analytical accuracy, and workload scheduling. Focus on preparing samples, validating other analysts’ work, maintaining QA documentation, and coordinating rush projects for timely delivery.

Location: Cary, NC, USA; candidates must be within commutable distance of the laboratory. Onsite, first shift, Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm.

Salary: Up to $19 per hour

What you will do

  • Prepare and analyze bulk asbestos samples using polarized light microscopy.
  • Enter, validate, review, and report analytical data through the LIMS.
  • Perform quality control testing, reference-material analysis, proficiency samples, and result confirmations.
  • Schedule sample workloads and coordinate projects according to due dates, hold times, and rush status.
  • Maintain laboratory training and QA documentation and support laboratory accreditation activities.
  • Follow laboratory procedures and help ensure compliance across the workplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Geology, or a closely related science.
  • Two to three years of laboratory experience involving asbestos or microscopy analysis is preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental methodologies, regulatory requirements, analytical laboratory techniques, and laboratory QA requirements.
  • Computer, spreadsheet, database, scientific, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Authorization to work indefinitely in the United States without restriction or sponsorship, and professional working proficiency in English, is required.

  • Experience analyzing non-culturable surface and air samples for fungi.
