Principal, Solution Architecture (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work with up to 2 days per week remote

Salary: $175,100–$282,800 annually; eligible for a 23%–30% annual discretionary incentive

What you will do

• Design application architectures for distributed and enterprise platforms using microservices, event-driven architecture, publish/subscribe messaging, and infrastructure as code.
• Architect streaming, batch, and message-based systems supporting reliable real-time and scheduled data flows.
• Own end-to-end solution architecture from ideation through implementation, including architecture decisions, requirements, and system diagrams.
• Guide cloud-native services and Kubernetes deployment topologies, including autoscaling, multi-availability-zone resilience, failover, and disaster recovery.
• Review engineering designs and code for architectural, security, regulatory, and compliance alignment.
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, platform, security, data, and business teams while mentoring engineers on architecture and distributed-system practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant work experience and a BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience designing large-scale distributed systems, transaction-processing systems, event-driven systems, and complex technology and data integrations.
• Software development experience with Java, Python, or C# for high-throughput, low-latency, data-intensive, or transaction-oriented systems.
• Strong knowledge of Kafka or comparable messaging and streaming platforms, including topic design, partitioning, and producer/consumer patterns.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, cloud ecosystems, infrastructure as code, and DevOps tooling including Terraform, Docker, Git, Jenkins, and ArgoCD.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex architecture decisions to non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• 6+ years of experience in the capital markets industry.
• Knowledge of OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, ForgeRock, SailPoint, Protobuf, schema evolution, and Apache Iceberg.
