TL;DR
Electrical Engineer - Defense (Power Electronics/Control Systems): Designing and developing mission-critical power conversion, control, and electrical systems for ruggedized military products across land, sea, and air platforms with an accent on system-level design, circuit analysis, schematic development, and military compliance. Focus on integrating and validating control hardware, analyzing power budgets and signal integrity, supporting Navy and shipbuilder design reviews, and qualifying high-reliability shipboard systems.

Location: Dynapower, South Burlington, Vermont, United States; full-time onsite role

Base salary: $118,800–$178,200 per year

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and validate control systems for electromechanical and power electronics hardware.
  • Create and manage system-level electrical schematics, board-level schematic sets, wiring harnesses, and interconnect diagrams.
  • Perform power budgeting, signal integrity, component derating, circuit analysis, and failure investigations.
  • Select and integrate electrical and control components based on performance, environmental, regulatory, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Plan and execute development, qualification, and production-launch testing, including test reports and procedures.
  • Participate in PDR and CDR design reviews with the Navy and shipbuilders and support customer requirements discussions.

Requirements

  • University degree, such as a bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with control systems, power electronics, electrical schematics, and system integration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
  • Strong written, oral, presentation, organization, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong collaboration skills with internal teams, suppliers, and external customers.
  • Eligibility to obtain authorization under ITAR and/or EAR is required; non-US persons may not be eligible.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and OrCAD/Altium.
  • Military shipboard electrical standards, MIL-E-917E, and MIL-STD-461 experience.
  • Experience designing, simulating, and prototyping military electrical hardware and PCBAs.
  • Knowledge of PWM, PLL, PID, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, HIL testbeds, and high-voltage troubleshooting.
