TL;DR
Staff Power Electronics Engineer (Aerospace): Developing next-generation power electronics hardware for satellite communication terminals, spanning power architecture, converter design, simulation, PCB layout, verification, integration, and production transition with an accent on AC-DC and DC-DC power systems, analog circuit design, and reliability. Focus on leading high-power converter development, performing worst-case and failure-mode analysis, validating hardware in the laboratory, and driving qualification and manufacturing release.

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States. On-site, full-time. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $158,000–$189,000 per year, plus stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead power system architecture development, trade studies, and power subsystem requirements definition.
  • Design DC-DC converters, power supplies, power distribution systems, and single-phase and three-phase AC-DC systems from low power to more than 20 kW.
  • Perform circuit, stress, small-signal, power-integrity, reliability, thermal, and failure-mode analyses.
  • Develop verification, qualification, integration, compliance, and production acceptance test plans.
  • Lead board bring-up, design verification, system integration, qualification campaigns, and production release.
  • Mentor engineers and lead a small power electronics team through project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of experience designing analog and power electronics.
  • Experience with power architectures, requirements, SWAP-C trade studies, converter topologies, and power management and control blocks.
  • Experience designing, testing, and qualifying AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies for industrial, airborne, or military systems.
  • Knowledge of control theory, power electronics stability, control-loop characterization, power filters, EMC, isolation, grounding, fault tolerance, and thermal management.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with isolated and non-isolated converter topologies, custom power magnetics, PFC converters, active rectifiers, soft switching, and resonant converters.
  • Experience with vendor statements of work, selection, and management.
  • Experience with Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, Xpedition, Ansys SiWave, or HyperLynx.
  • Programming experience in Python or MATLAB for hardware testing and data processing.
