Materials Analyst (Microscopy)

Location: Raleigh, NC, USA; onsite, Tuesday–Saturday, 5:00 PM–2:00 AM

Salary: USD 78,000–90,000 per year, plus a 10% evening shift differential.

What you will do

• Prepare high-quality, site-specific TEM lamellae using Dual Beam FIB-SEM systems.
• Perform SEM imaging for sample navigation, preparation, and quality verification.
• Manage multiple client samples while meeting internal quality standards and turnaround commitments.
• Optimize preparation workflows with the team and improve efficiency and consistency.
• Collaborate with analytical teams and clients to understand requirements and follow standardized procedures.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required due to ITAR-controlled defense-related work.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Hands-on experience independently operating Dual Beam FIB-SEM systems for sample preparation workflows.
• Working knowledge of electron microscopy principles, including SEM and TEM.
• General understanding of semiconductor device physics and failure analysis concepts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven laboratory.

Nice to have

• Expertise in TEM lamella preparation, including lift-out and site-specific techniques.
• Advanced SEM imaging experience.
• Experience in high-throughput or production laboratory environments.
• Clear technical communication with internal teams and external clients.
