What you will do
- Take primary responsibility for two incoming aberration-corrected, monochromated Nion STEMs optimized for EELS.
- Develop instrumentation science and conduct quantitative analytical STEM research on nanomaterials.
- Establish an independent research program focused on energy materials, microelectronics, quantum materials, and related nanoscience.
- Support facility users, including proposal reviews, beamtime allocation, scheduling, and collaborative research.
- Oversee day-to-day electron microscope operations and analytical microscopy capabilities.
- Mentor postdoctoral researchers and graduate and undergraduate students.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a suitable Engineering discipline.
- At least two years of post-Ph.D. experience; four years is preferred.
- High-impact research experience developing and using aberration-corrected STEM and spectroscopy, especially EELS and EELS simulations.
- Technical expertise in optimizing, operating, and maintaining electron microscopes, particularly Nion STEMs.
- Experience with electron microscopy data quantification, spectroscopy or image analysis, and safe laboratory practices.
- Strong scientific communication, collaboration, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with 4D-STEM, tomography, in situ microscopy, and advanced EM software or hardware development.
- Experience developing Python or other programming-language tools for microscopy data analytics, processing, or machine learning.
- Active participation in electron microscopy or materials science professional societies.
