Substation Project Development, Engineer 3

Location: Hybrid role based in Pomona, California; employees are required to work and reside in California unless otherwise noted. The role may require extended work at an alternate SCE location and up to 5% travel throughout the SCE service territory. Relocation may apply.

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year

What you will do

• Provide technical and engineering support for distribution, subtransmission, and transmission substation projects, including pre-scoping and project cross-cutting opportunities.
• Coordinate technical analyses and resolve complex, high-impact, and cross-functional engineering issues.
• Lead and coordinate full-time and contract employees in implementing technical strategies, equipment, and standards.
• Perform lifecycle and risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and improve preventive maintenance procedures.
• Control engineering facility design bases, maintain design documentation, and coordinate high-impact engineering studies and projects.
• Support audits, inspections, environmental health and safety compliance, and technical training for junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematical field.
• Five or more years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to work and reside in California and report to the Pomona facility on designated hybrid-work days.
• Ability to pass a NERC/CIP Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation and complete required training before receiving unescorted site access.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience modeling and performing power-system analyses for 4 kV to 500 kV distribution and transmission systems.
• Utility-industry experience in substation planning, grid interconnection, substation infrastructure, or facility design.
• Experience collaborating with regulatory agencies such as FERC and NERC.
• Experience managing large-scale projects, including strategic planning, budgeting, and execution.
