Buildings / Facilities Inspector

Location: Central Park Avenue, Virginia Beach, Virginia; position associated with hirify.global's Gainesville, VA office

Salary: $61,899–$70,339 per year

What you will do

• Inspect commercial, institutional, industrial, public, and occupied facilities for compliance with building codes, fire codes, accessibility requirements, safety regulations, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Review structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, and building envelope systems, including roofs, walls, windows, and doors.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports, photographic records, deficiency logs, punch lists, and project closeout documentation.
• Track corrective actions, non-conforming work, deferred maintenance, and capital improvement needs through completion.
• Coordinate with owners, contractors, maintenance personnel, and project managers during meetings, walkthroughs, occupancy inspections, and closeout activities.
• Monitor site safety and verify compliance with OSHA and facility-specific safety policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–5 years of experience in building inspection, facilities management, construction inspection, or building maintenance.
• Knowledge of IBC, IFC, IMC, IPC, NEC, ADA Accessibility Guidelines, construction methods, facility maintenance, building systems, and quality assurance practices.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents and prepare detailed inspection reports.
• Ability to walk active construction sites and occupied facilities, climb ladders and stairs, access mechanical rooms and roofs, lift up to 25 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Full-time, on-location work in Virginia with access to active construction sites and facilities.

Nice to have

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, building technology, facilities management, or a related field.
• Experience with commercial, institutional, healthcare, educational, government, or industrial facilities.
• ICC Commercial Building Inspector, ICC Building Inspector, CFM, FMP, OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour, CBO, NFPA Life Safety, or RRO certification.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
