Founding High School Principal

Location: Albany, NY, USA; this role is located at KIPP Capital Region schools in Albany, NY

Salary: $120,000–$132,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the launch and ongoing development of a new co-ed high school growing from approximately 350 to 800 students.
• Set the academic vision and oversee college-preparatory curriculum, instructional quality, student well-being, and character development.
• Use student performance data to guide instructional adjustments, interventions, and academic improvement.
• Build and manage the school leadership team, recruit and retain high-performing staff, and develop future leaders.
• Establish an inclusive, equitable, anti-racist, and collaborative school culture engaging students, families, and community partners.
• Manage budgets, operational systems, compliance, health and safety, risk mitigation, and school-wide performance goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least 3 years of experience as a school principal and at least 10 years in education, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
• Secondary-level leadership experience covering curriculum development, staff management, student performance, and school culture.
• Proven record of improving graduation rates, GPA averages, and other academic outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, decision-making, project management, and resource management skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule outside regular business hours, travel infrequently to other KIPP Capital Region schools, and pass a criminal background check.
