What you will do

• Teach foundational middle school mathematics, including ratios and proportions, expressions and equations, and the number system.
• Use the in-house CCSS-based mathematics curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
• Motivate students to persevere, think critically, and explore multiple approaches to solving problems.
• Analyze student work samples and assessments with the principal and instructional coach, then differentiate instruction.
• Build positive relationships with students and partner with families to support learning needs.
• Collaborate with grade-level teams and participate in professional development, coaching, mentorship, and school-wide meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before employment begins.
• Academic expertise in mathematics, science, technology, engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in supporting K-12 students’ social-emotional and academic development, particularly in urban schools and communities.
• Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners and implement feedback to improve outcomes.
• Certification is not required at hiring, but candidates without an education degree must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Teachers must become certified in New York State within a reasonable period after employment begins.
