What you will do
- Teach a shared high school literature curriculum featuring inclusive and diverse texts.
- Prepare students for AP, SAT, and collegiate-level coursework through rigorous reading, writing, and discussion instruction.
- Facilitate student-led discourse and help students use evidence to develop, synthesize, and evaluate arguments.
- Analyze comprehension, writing, and assessment data to adapt lessons and differentiate instruction.
- Collaborate with department and grade-level colleagues on instructional strategies and academic goals.
- Build relationships with students and families while participating in coaching, professional development, and school-wide meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university before employment begins.
- Academic background in Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Commitment to students' social-emotional and academic development.
- Interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities; 1–2 years of experience is preferred.
- Certification is not required at hiring, but NY State certification eligibility is required.
- Those without an education degree must enroll in a teacher preparation program, maintain a GPA of at least 2.75, and become certified in New York within a reasonable period after starting employment.
