TL;DR
Director of ELA (K-2 literacy and education): Leading curriculum alignment, instructional quality, assessment, and professional development across a network of nine schools with an accent on rigorous, college-ready ELA and the science of reading. Focus on analyzing academic data, observing instruction, coaching school leaders, and building research-based teaching practices.

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; full-time, onsite role.

Salary: $95,000–$100,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

  • Set and drive the vision for a rigorous, joyful, affirming K-2 ELA academic program, including curriculum, assessment, instructional approach, and course sequencing.
  • Analyze ELA academic data to identify trends, strengths, concerns, and priorities for school- and region-wide initiatives.
  • Observe instruction with Assistant Principals, align expectations for instructional quality, and help resolve school-specific challenges.
  • Design and lead professional development for teachers, school leaders, instructional coaches, and content leads.
  • Codify and communicate curriculum, assessment, instructional resources, and program expectations clearly.
  • Partner with academic leaders, local and national experts, and colleagues to implement research-based best practices and support onboarding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision and/or administrative certification is required.
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience with strong student achievement outcomes.
  • Regional or central office experience supporting school leadership teams.
  • Experience serving students and families in urban school settings.
  • Strong data analysis, instructional planning, standards-aligned instruction, and curriculum implementation skills.
  • Required Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Child Abuse, and Cogent Federal Fingerprinting clearances.

Nice to have

  • Pennsylvania State certification Level I or II.
  • Experience leading professional development or coaching teachers.
