Construction Quality Inspector (Transportation)

Location: Duluth, Minnesota, United States; full-time field role

Salary: $73,000–$109,000 per year

What you will do

• Perform observation and inspection duties on transportation-related construction projects, primarily in the field.
• Inspect grading activities and selected aspects of large superstructure construction.
• Apply DOT regulations, project specifications, materials-control schedules, and project requirements.
• Communicate project progress in writing and verbally, and work with internal and external project teams to resolve issues.
• Train and mentor Quality Inspectors and potentially lead teams on regional transportation or design-build infrastructure projects.
• Pursue nationally recognized DOT certifications and support continuous professional development.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of related experience in materials testing or construction.
• MnDOT Level II certification in Concrete, Bituminous, or Grading & Base.
• Strong plan-reading, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and technical skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, lift 50–75 pounds, maintain safety standards, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Nice to have

• ACI Field Grade 1 certification.
• Additional nationally recognized transportation inspection certifications, such as NICET Transportation Inspector.
• Associate degree.
