TL;DR
Staff Electrical Engineer I - Phased Array Unit Lead (AESA) (Ka-band phased arrays and RF electronics): Leading the end-to-end development of spaceborne AESA payloads from architecture and prototyping through integration, environmental qualification, and flight readiness with an accent on antenna, RF, digital control, and power-conversion design. Focus on coordinating multidisciplinary engineering execution, managing TVAC, vibration, shock, and EMC qualification, and driving anomaly resolution and transition to volume production.

Location: Austin, TX; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations.

Company

hirify.global develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.

What you will do

  • Lead the AESA unit as the primary technical point of contact throughout product development.
  • Direct architecture, design, prototyping, integration, testing, environmental qualification, and flight-readiness activities.
  • Coordinate RF, digital, power, mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineering teams.
  • Develop payload control schemes, data interfaces, command and telemetry architecture, and firmware/software integration.
  • Manage qualification campaigns, including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, EMC, margin assessment, and acceptance testing.
  • Drive manufacturability, testability, customer documentation, root-cause analysis, risk mitigation, and transition to volume production.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of engineering experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Hands-on experience with active phased-array antennas, antennas, and board-level RF electronics.
  • Experience testing active antennas, including EIRP and G/T measurements.
  • Strong knowledge of power and digital support circuitry, design for manufacturability, systems engineering, requirements flowdown, verification and validation, and configuration management.
  • Leadership experience with multidisciplinary engineering teams and the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience executing or overseeing flight qualification and environmental test campaigns, including TVAC, vibration, shock, EMC, and radiation considerations.
  • Experience managing hardware/software product development projects and designing radiation-tolerant systems.
  • High-frequency antenna design experience, especially in the Ka band.
  • Experience with high-rate manufacturing, rapid development cycles, NewSpace ecosystems, or flight-hardware roles such as Responsible Engineer, Technical Lead, IPT Lead, or Chief Engineer.
  • Experience mentoring project and design engineers.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
  • Collaboration across engineering, systems, manufacturing, vendors, test facilities, and customers.
  • Work focused on advanced communication hardware for space and airborne platforms.
