Electrical Engineer III (Photonics & Imaging)

Location: Middletown, Rhode Island; on-site at NUWCDIVNPT in Newport, Rhode Island. Occasional telework is possible, but candidates must be local to the work location.

Salary: $84,362.83–$146,690.59 per year.

What you will do

• Test, troubleshoot, repair, and provide in-service engineering support for periscopes and photonics mast imaging systems on US Navy vessels.
• Lead and coordinate technician teams, optimize testing schedules, and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Design custom test equipment, electrical schematics, diagrams, and Technical Data Packages.
• Develop test plans, test readiness evaluations, hardware installations, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Analyze RF electronics, electrical assemblies, military-specification cables, and hardware failures in a laboratory environment.
• Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers, Navy program managers, OEMs, government personnel, and subcontractors; travel for installations and platform configurations as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field with 5–7 years of experience, or an equivalent master’s or PhD pathway.
• Relevant US Navy or military technical electronics experience may substitute for the BS degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience with electrical CAD tools such as Altium, OrCAD, and LTSpice, plus laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, and FieldFox network analyzers.
• Strong knowledge of RF test equipment and systems involving antennas, amplifiers, filters, and signal distribution.
• Ability to lead technical personnel, communicate with customer organizations, follow SOPs, and manage multiple testing tasks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance; up to 10% travel may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with submarine imaging and periscope systems or prior submarine military service.
• Knowledge of US Navy SUBSAFE, Material Control, and Fleet Maintenance programs.
• Experience with PCB layout, microcontrollers, FPGAs, embedded systems, or SolidWorks.
