Technical Service Engineer (Steel Manufacturing)

Location: Remote-based in Ohio or Wisconsin, with up to 50% domestic travel to U.S. customers. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Manage customer claims, field concerns, technical requirements, and product specifications.
• Recommend suitable steel products and process improvements for customers and internal manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and customers to troubleshoot production constraints and resolve technical issues.
• Support or lead new product development initiatives involving thermomechanical processing, alloy design, and failure analysis.
• Coordinate technical meetings and communicate significant issues across business levels.
• Represent Charter Steel at industry and association events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of customer-facing technical experience.
• Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and specifications.
• Ability to interpret and evaluate customer technical requirements.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, influencing, and coaching skills.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 50% and follow environmental, quality, and safety procedures.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of manufacturing experience, particularly in cold-heading or cold-forming.
• Master’s degree or other advanced degree in Business Administration, Physical Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with steel products, strategic planning, documented manufacturing quality systems, or technical supervision.
• Experience with QS9000, ISO9000, or TS16949 quality systems.
