Assistant Field Layout Engineer (Surveying)

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee, United States; full-time field position with travel of up to 60 miles per day based on project location. Occasional overnight stays, extended hours, and weekends may be required.

What you will do

• Establish building corners, permanent reference points, benchmarks, and control lines for construction layout.
• Lay out wall, column, and anchor bolt center lines for rebar, formwork, embeds, and related installations.
• Check slab elevations and alignment during concrete pours and verify that field crews use the correct elevations and control lines.
• Perform as-built surveys to confirm work placement, identify conflicts, and help maintain as-built drawings.
• Read and coordinate structural, architectural, civil, shop, and contract drawings, identifying discrepancies and proposing solutions.
• Calculate earth, rock, and concrete quantities and maintain project records and engineering equipment.

Requirements

• Five years of experience as a construction tradesperson.
• Graduation from a relevant trade school with a surveying certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel up to 60 miles per day depending on the project location.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
• Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including drug and background screening.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding of Trimble and Nikon equipment.
• Basic knowledge of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics.
• Experience in general trade carpentry, including two years of construction carpentry experience.
