TL;DR
Senior Packaging Engineer (Packaging Development): Leading end-to-end development and commercialization of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems across international markets with an accent on package performance, quality, cost, timing, and sustainability. Focus on designing qualification and validation programs, troubleshooting packaging and line issues, coordinating cross-functional projects, and developing material and component specifications using DOE, SPC, FMEA, and Lean Six Sigma principles.

Location: Princeton, New Jersey, USA; hybrid schedule with in-person attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and remote work options on Mondays and Fridays. Flexibility to participate in global meetings during early mornings or late evenings is required.

Salary: $92,500–$131,700 US base salary per year, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

  • Lead packaging development programs from concept through manufacturing launch across multiple Strategic Business Units and international markets.
  • Develop and qualify primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems, including plastics, flexible films, corrugated materials, cartons, thermoforms, bottles, tubes, and injection-molded components.
  • Plan and execute analytical testing, package performance testing, line trials, qualification, validation, and commercialization activities.
  • Evaluate packaging in laboratory, warehouse, and manufacturing environments; troubleshoot packaging and production-line issues.
  • Manage concurrent innovation, quality improvement, margin enhancement, cost-saving, sustainability, and material-optimization projects.
  • Coordinate global engineering teams, local packaging subject matter experts, and suppliers while providing technical leadership and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of packaging development experience.
  • End-to-end experience with primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging development.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to independently manage projects, including timelines, risk assessments, contingency plans, and action plans.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and meet packaging quality and regulatory requirements for global launches.

Nice to have

  • Consumer packaged goods experience and experience launching products in multiple global markets.
  • Experience with plant-based manufacturing environments and packaging commercialization.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, MiniTab, Agile tools, CAPE Pack, ArtiosCAD, or AutoCAD.
  • Experience supporting cost savings, sustainability, and material optimization initiatives.
