Scientist, R&D - Packaging Development (Packaging)

Location: Glenview, Illinois, United States; normal office environment with moderate travel to customer locations, stores, and manufacturing facilities; 30% travel required.

New hire base salary: $77,800–$97,300 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead and support packaging projects covering innovation, commercialization, cost savings, and ESG.
• Develop packaging solutions across multiple material types from concept through commercialization.
• Act as the packaging lead across cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects with complex scopes.
• Collaborate with packaging authorities, vendors, and external manufacturers on technologies and applications.
• Manage technical timelines, identify and communicate risks, and develop contingency plans.
• Conduct laboratory, pilot plant, and factory trials; analyze results, write specifications, and maintain technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Packaging, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 1 year with a master’s degree.
• Experience in packaging development, commercialization, and distribution environments.
• Ability to plan and execute design experiments, evaluate alternatives, analyze data, and prioritize concurrent assignments.
• Ability to manage packaging specification systems, documentation, updates, data accuracy, quality, and compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and willingness to travel 30%.

• Hands-on experience with rigid bottles, closures, and film packaging components.
• Ability to quickly learn new packaging technologies, materials, product categories, and processes.
