Principal Metallurgist - Technology

Location: Reading, Pennsylvania, United States; full-time onsite role

What you will do

• Provide technical services to internal and external customers and make dispositions for non-conforming and off-standard materials, including material review reports and customer claims.
• Lead alloy and process development projects, including planning, budget compliance, resource coordination, and management of functional project teams.
• Apply statistical methods, experimental design, SPC, Six Sigma, and BPI tools to solve complex technical problems and eliminate inefficiencies.
• Recognize, assess, and communicate technical risks to management and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical leadership, training, mentoring, and guidance to less-experienced staff, peers, customers, and managers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, practices, and production equipment.
• Knowledge of statistics, Six Sigma, and/or BPI practices, including experimental design.
• Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas, travel, prioritize work, lead project teams, and deliver results on schedule.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to internal and external customer needs.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of emerging technologies for alloy development and manufacturing.
• Ability to predict future alloy-development needs and identify potential products, processes, and partners.
