Critical Operations Technician (Data Center): Operating and maintaining mission-critical data center mechanical, electrical, monitoring, control, and fire life safety systems with an accent on availability, preventive maintenance, and operational efficiency. Focus on responding to abnormal conditions, coordinating power installations, analyzing system trends, and preventing customer-impacting outages.
Location: Elk Grove Village, Illinois, United States. Onsite data center role with variable working hours, including weekends, holidays, late nights, and on-call support. Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Compensation: $40.00–$58.00 per hour.

What you will do
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, building monitoring, control, and fire life safety systems.
- Maintain chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification, fan wall, chiller, UPS, PDU, RPP, switchgear, generator, and critical power systems.
- Track and trend operating characteristics, analyze conditions, and recommend technologies and improvements that increase data center efficiency.
- Execute preventive and predictive maintenance, manage discrepancies in the CMMS, and resolve site issues according to priorities.
- Coordinate power installations and upgrades while managing systems to prevent unplanned, customer-impacting outages.
- Conduct facility and security tours, escalate incidents, write follow-up reports, maintain equipment records, and provide customer support.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience in data center or other mission-critical operations.
- Strong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAH/CRAC, STS, ATS, and pre-action systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, fire life safety compliance, and applicable building codes.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, database software, data center trending and analysis, and PC-based site monitoring systems.
- Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment, handle shifting priorities, lift up to 25 pounds, and support weekends, holidays, late nights, and on-call duties.
Nice to have
- United States Navy Nuclear Engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
