Commissioning Engineer (High Voltage)

Location: Remote - CA; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future. The role requires approximately 20–30% travel and active participation in field operations, including onsite training.

Salary: $115,576–$141,581 per year.

What you will do

• Lead and support testing, commissioning, readiness verification, and initial energization of high-voltage substations, BESS facilities, and PV AC collection systems.
• Develop testing and commissioning plans and detailed initial energization procedures aligned with project specifications, utility requirements, and industry standards.
• Perform high-voltage switching operations and coordinate field activities with project management, owners, utilities, OEMs, and field services.
• Coordinate harmonic measurements and power quality assessments during commissioning and after energization.
• Provide post-energization technical support, system monitoring, troubleshooting, on-call support, and commissioning closeout.
• Develop operating and training documentation, deliver onsite training, and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8–10 years of experience testing and commissioning high-voltage substations, BESS, and utility-scale PV facilities, or 10 years of utility-scale substation testing or operations experience.
• 3–4 years of experience performing and directing high-voltage switching operations.
• Strong knowledge of protection and control systems, power quality, and harmonic analysis, including experience with harmonic analyzers and power quality monitoring equipment.
• Experience developing commissioning plans, energization procedures, and technical training materials, as well as supporting post-energization operations or warranty periods.
• Excellent safety record and compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and utility switching and clearance procedures, including work in energized and high-risk electrical environments. NETA Certification at Level II, III, or IV is required.
