TL;DR
Senior Scientist – Environmental Investigation & Remediation (Brownfield Redevelopment): Leading complex environmental investigation, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment projects from concept through construction completion with an accent on client advisory, multidisciplinary leadership, regulatory compliance, and project performance. Focus on designing response action plans, managing soil and groundwater investigations, overseeing remedial activities, and developing scopes, budgets, grants, and technical reports.

Location: Hybrid role based in Bloomington, Minnesota, United States; local and regional travel required up to approximately 20%.

Compensation: $88,000–$131,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Lead and manage brownfield redevelopment projects from concept through construction completion.
  • Advise clients and develop practical solutions for complex environmental challenges.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams while managing scope, budget, schedule, risk, quality, and profitability.
  • Provide technical leadership for Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations, and remediation planning.
  • Oversee remedial activities, compliance monitoring, regulatory engagement, and redevelopment support.
  • Build client relationships, prepare proposals and cost estimates, and mentor technical and project leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional Geologist, Professional Engineer, CHMM, or related licensure/certification, or the ability to obtain registration or certification within 12 months.
  • 10–20+ years of progressively responsible environmental and project management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of brownfield assessment, risk management, regulatory engagement, grant writing and management, and redevelopment goals.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations; Minnesota-specific knowledge is preferred.
  • Leadership, mentoring, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and business development skills, plus a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Minnesota environmental regulations.
  • Experience with local and national cleanup grants.
