Rail Vehicle Propulsion Engineer

Location: Remote, USA; approximately 25% travel required, including international travel.

Salary: $187,000–$208,000 per year

hirify.global’s Rail Vehicle Engineering group provides engineering services for rail vehicles and transit agencies.

What you will do

• Prepare equipment performance criteria, propulsion specifications, test specifications, and engineering reports.
• Review and evaluate carbuilder and propulsion equipment supplier design packages, drawings, and test reports.
• Witness equipment and vehicle testing, factory tests, site commissioning tests, and First Article Inspections.
• Evaluate proposed carbuilder designs on behalf of transit agency clients.
• Support technical and cost proposals for new work and prepare change orders for existing projects.
• Interface with railway clients and multidisciplinary staff across hirify.global offices.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of propulsion systems experience in the transit or railroad industry, including rail vehicle propulsion system or major subcomponent design.
• ABET-accredited four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong familiarity with AC traction motors, power converters, power transformers, power collection equipment, and other high-voltage electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of EN, IEC, UL, ANSI, APTA, IEEE, and other relevant industry standards.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary staff across different offices.
• Proficiency in preparing clear, concise, and logical engineering documents in English.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with auxiliary power converters.
• Valid Engineer-in-Training, Professional Engineering, or international equivalent certification.
