TL;DR
Director, Federal Government Affairs (Genomics): Developing and executing federal government affairs strategies, policy positions, and advocacy initiatives for a genomics technology company with an accent on legislative analysis, regulatory monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. Focus on influencing federal policy, preparing testimony and advocacy materials, building coalitions, and advancing patient access and business objectives in a complex healthcare and political environment.
Location: Remote from the United States, with residence required in the greater Washington D.C. area. Occasional travel to the San Diego headquarters and external events is required.
Base salary: $187,400–$281,000 per year, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and, where applicable, equity.

What you will do
- Develop and implement federal government affairs strategies aligned with business priorities.
- Analyze proposed federal legislation, regulations, and administrative actions and recommend company positions.
- Engage directly with members of Congress, federal agencies, policymakers, lobbyists, and industry leaders.
- Prepare policy briefings, testimony, presentations, advocacy materials, and internal messaging.
- Represent in trade associations, coalitions, industry task forces, and government forums.
- Build partnerships with payers, provider organizations, clinical research institutions, and patient advocacy groups, while helping manage high-profile government meetings and events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 15–18 years of related experience, including 10+ years of management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with Congress, the Administration, executive agencies, and federal policymakers.
- Strong knowledge of federal legislative, regulatory, and compliance processes.
- Experience analyzing legislative and regulatory documents and presenting to senior-level stakeholders.
- Strong communication, writing, presentation, problem-solving, negotiation, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
- Must reside in the greater Washington D.C. area; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
