TL;DR
Sr. Controls Engineer (PLC): Providing plant electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering support for the design, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems with an accent on manufacturing automation, process control, and electrical safety. Focus on managing capital automation projects, improving packaging and processing controls, leading cross-functional technical initiatives, and developing operations and maintenance capabilities.

Location: York, Pennsylvania, United States; onsite at the manufacturing and distribution facility. Monday–Friday schedule, with varying hours and off-hours support as needed.

What you will do

  • Design, modify, assemble, integrate, test, troubleshoot, and commission PLC-based control and instrumentation systems.
  • Manage capital projects involving automation and controls infrastructure within defined scope, budget, timelines, and outcomes.
  • Lead plant controls initiatives for manufacturing and distribution, including PLCs, microprocessors, electrical systems, and process automation.
  • Improve packaging and processing equipment control logic to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve cycle-time throughput.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, support maintenance troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, and provide technical training for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Supervise an instrumentation and controls specialist and support staff development, workforce flexibility, employee relations, and Lean Daily Management objectives.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience and a four-year degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Direct engineering experience with PLC-based control system design, assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, UL standards, Allen-Bradley controls, AC and motor controls, and process sensors.
  • Ability to calibrate and test controls, verify instrumentation accuracy, perform routine plant-wide controls maintenance, and prepare control schematics, ladder logic diagrams, wiring schematics, P&IDs, and PFDs.
  • Knowledge of production operations and lean manufacturing principles, including Six Sigma, 5S, TPS, Kaizen, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, organization, critical thinking, data analysis, and prioritization skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, CMMS, and SAP.

Nice to have

  • Engineering experience in a high-volume, multiple-SKU, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Consumer packaged goods or FDA-regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Maintenance Module and AutoCAD.
  • Flexibility to work various hours and shifts during major projects and installations.
