Automation Engineer III (Instrumentation and Controls): Leading the design, documentation, and administration of complex automation, instrumentation, and control systems for life sciences and food and beverage manufacturing facilities with an accent on process automation, mechanical system controls, regulatory standards, and construction documentation. Focus on developing advanced control system schematics, P&IDs, safety instrumented systems, field wiring plans, and coordinating multidisciplinary project execution.
Location: Raleigh, NC, USA; full-time onsite role

What you will do
- Lead automation, instrumentation, and controls engineering through design, documentation, construction, and administration phases.
- Interface with clients, external partners, construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
- Plan discipline work, manage project budgets, and support proposals, resource planning, and schedules for large and complex projects.
- Develop construction drawing packages, specifications, control system schematics, panel fabrication drawings, field wiring plans, and P&IDs.
- Support construction through RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, progress reports, and field surveys.
- Lead discipline staff, perform quality checks, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and mentor engineers and designers.
Requirements
- ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in a design firm environment.
- Knowledge of control system application software development methodologies.
- Advanced experience with instrumentation and controls calculations, control system design, P&IDs, electrical and building codes, and industry standards.
- Experience with GMP manufacturing environments and safety instrumented systems.
- Professional coordination and design calculation skills with limited supervision.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer registration.
- ISA Certified Automation Professional certification.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and discipline-specific software.
