TL;DR
Principal Controls Engineer (Medtech): Developing, validating, troubleshooting, and implementing controls solutions for manufacturing equipment and systems with an accent on PLCs, robotics, vision systems, electrical diagnostics, and regulatory compliance. Focus on leading sophisticated equipment projects, solving production and process issues, managing change control and validation activities, and driving plant innovation.

Location: Marion, North Carolina, United States; onsite manufacturing environment

Salary: $112,000–$154,000 annually, with potential discretionary bonus eligibility

What you will do

  • Develop controls and engineering solutions for assigned manufacturing projects.
  • Design, install, start up, test, validate, and troubleshoot new equipment and systems.
  • Lead equipment change control, NCR/CAPA investigations, regulatory compliance activities, and validation reporting.
  • Conduct engineering studies, experiments, data analysis, and equipment performance testing.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, service, and other internal and external functional teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, support, and innovation across the plant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, AB500, safety PLCs, and Allen-Bradley HMIs.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Yaskawa, and Staubli robotics; Cognex and Keyence vision systems; and Rockwell or Yaskawa servo controls.
  • Hands-on electrical diagnostics, Category 3 safety systems, E-Plan P8, AutoCAD, and electrical schematic reading/drawing skills.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer of sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on mechanical abilities and AutoCAD drafting skills.
  • Experience with drives, motion control, encoders, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and validation protocol execution.
