TL;DR
Sr. Coating Engineer (Thin Film Coating): Developing and scaling ink mixing, thin film coating, conveyance, and drying processes for electrolyzer and fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies with an accent on process stability, manufacturing scale-up, and product quality. Focus on building capacity models, analyzing process capabilities, driving manufacturing improvement projects, and reducing waste and cost.

Location: Rochester Innovation Center, United States; onsite full-time role

Salary: $95,040–$142,500 per year

What you will do

  • Lead ink-mixing trials and develop large-scale ink-mixing processes for coating electrolyzer and fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies.
  • Evaluate and maintain thin-film coating, conveyance, and drying processes while collaborating with equipment vendors and technicians.
  • Support process development and scale-up activities from engineering into manufacturing.
  • Develop capacity models and maintain documentation for current and future manufacturing states.
  • Design data-collection methods, test finished products, analyze process capability, and confirm manufacturing processes.
  • Drive supplier quality initiatives, engineering changes, manufacturing improvements, and technician training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a STEM-related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of coating engineering experience.
  • Experience driving manufacturing improvement projects and applying analytical methods with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of coating processes, product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Experience with relevant software systems, including Power BI, Ignition, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and JMP.
  • Strong communication, project-management, self-motivation, follow-through, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Lean Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
