Senior Mechanical Designer (HVAC)

Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; onsite full-time

Salary: CAD 86,400–100,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the design and production of heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and low-carbon energy systems for institutional buildings.
• Perform and review heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations using HAP, TAS, Excel, and related tools.
• Prepare schematic layouts, final designs, equipment schedules, motor lists, and mechanical specifications.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, construction changes, equipment selections, and utility or municipal service requirements.
• Coordinate mechanical design with architectural, structural, electrical, client, supplier, constructor, and utility stakeholders.
• Supervise junior and intermediate designers and contribute to workload planning, fee proposals, and client relations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of design experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• University degree or college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with schematic design, equipment selection, 2D AutoCAD, and 3D Revit.
• Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and apply plumbing, building, and sprinkler codes.
• Experience conducting detailed site surveys and working autonomously on design projects.
• Strong coordination, problem-solving, communication, delegation, and client relationship skills.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) designation.
• LEED or Passive House accreditation.
• Experience with Passive House, aquatics, or district energy projects.
