Senior HVAC Research Engineer (AI)

Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Hybrid workplace with specific in-office days each month.

Annual base salary: $66,300–$138,400 CAD.

What you will do

• Develop and refine HVAC sequences of operation that support optimization algorithms for facility mechanical systems.
• Integrate AI capabilities into operating sequences and collaborate with AI research, MLOps, algorithm, software, and architecture teams.
• Review mechanical and control drawings, conduct remote system reviews, and assess equipment configuration and control readiness.
• Analyze BAS trend data and system performance to detect anomalies and benchmark results before and after optimization.
• Support functional performance testing, virtual simulations, and real-world field trials to validate energy savings, comfort, reliability, and algorithm functionality.
• Debug control logic and optimization algorithms, provide technical documentation, and train operations teams on algorithm behavior and configuration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Meaningful experience in applied HVAC system design and/or commissioning.
• Deep understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, refrigeration cycles, and building automation systems.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical system design and controls.
• Stable and successful employment history.

Nice to have

• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
