Underwriting Consultant (Large Market)

Location: Hybrid role requiring three days per week in a Guardian office, in commutable proximity to a hirify.global Hub. Boston is preferred; Bethlehem, PA, New York City, and Holmdel, NJ are also available.

Salary: $103,450–$169,960 base pay annually, with potential eligibility for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Develop pricing, plan designs, funding arrangements, and service recommendations for employers with 1,000 or more covered lives.
• Determine pricing for new and renewal business using prior claim experience, manual rates, underwriting systems, and databases.
• Communicate and negotiate rates, fees, plan designs, contract comparisons, and risk-related decisions with Sales, agents, and brokers.
• Manage complex technical underwriting issues, document case decisions, and provide guidance on irregular administrative requests.
• Mentor and train underwriters, sales staff, and account management colleagues.
• Lead or contribute to projects that improve underwriting processes, guidelines, pricing, and policy strategies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Group Life, Disability, and/or Dental underwriting.
• Experience with experience-based rating, risk assessment, complex case analysis, and mathematical or analytical decision-making.
• Thorough knowledge of group insurance products and processes, underwriting tools, and systems.
• Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, communication, presentation, prioritization, and independent decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
