Traffic Engineer (Transportation Engineering)

Salary: $130,962.60–$149,671.54 per year

What you will do

• Perform traffic engineering studies, designs, planning studies, and traffic impact analyses.
• Design traffic signals for CTDOT and Connecticut municipalities, including electrical equipment and signal timings.
• Conduct traffic simulation and operational analyses using VISSIM, Synchro, SimTraffic, and HCS.
• Prepare and review traffic impact studies, analysis reports, technical proposals, and business development materials.
• Provide traffic input for environmental studies, roadway signing, pavement markings, maintenance and protection of traffic plans, design approval documents, and signal operations analyses.
• Coordinate with transportation agencies, local authorities, multidisciplinary teams, and public information meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and 5–10 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with traffic safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles; roadside and intersection safety; accessibility; crash data analysis; and crash countermeasures.
• Experience delivering transportation projects and studies within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform essential job functions consistently and safely.

Nice to have

• PTOE certification.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and AutoTurn.
• Thorough knowledge of HCS, VISSIM, and Synchro/SimTraffic.
