Second Engineer (Maritime): Maintaining and operating engineering systems aboard small expedition ships with an accent on preventative maintenance, safety equipment, propulsion support, and engine-room operations. Focus on testing shipboard systems, managing maintenance records and spares, bunkering fuel and oil, and responding to mechanical and electrical issues during voyages.

Location: Cairns, Australia

Salary: AUD 117,778–AUD 125,901 per year plus superannuation.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement the preventative maintenance program.
  • Maintain workbooks, records, maintenance logs, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Maintain firefighting equipment, safety gear, pumps, hydraulic and electrical equipment, lighting, and bridge equipment.
  • Maintain the engine room, scuba compressor, outboard motors, steering equipment, and ship safety devices.
  • Conduct fuel and oil bunkering and stand watch during voyages.
  • Carry out repairs and maintenance required to preserve the ship’s operational integrity.

Requirements

  • Engineer Class 1 or 2 certification under STCW95.
  • Engineer Watchkeeper Certificate of Competency with First Engineer endorsement.
  • ASSB certification, crowd control and crisis management training.
  • International AMSA medical certification.
  • First Aid or Medical Care on Ships and CPR certification.
  • Passport and MSIC Card.

Nice to have

  • Passenger ship experience.
