Second Officer

Location: Perth, WA, Australia; onboard expedition vessels

What you will do

• Stand bridge watches at sea and at anchor.
• Prepare port-to-port passage plans for each voyage.
• Assist the Master with area mud maps and completion of bridge control sheets.
• Conduct radio checks and verify that bridge equipment meets required specifications.
• Deliver inductions to new crew and serve as the onboard OH&S representative, including running monthly meetings.
• Maintain safety and firefighting equipment with the Chief Officer and support expedition programming, baggage handling, and turnaround operations.

Requirements

• Hold a Deck Watchkeeper (Unlimited) or Chief Mate <3000 certificate of competency.
• Hold an AMSA-endorsed Certificate of Safety Training (CoST).
• Hold Proficiency in Survival Craft and Crowd Control & Crisis Management certification.
• Hold an International AMSA Medical certificate and a current First Aid/CPR certificate.
• Commit to rosters of up to 6 weeks for domestic voyages and up to 8 weeks for international voyages.

Nice to have

• Passenger ship experience.
