Associate Director, Strategic Sourcing - Illumina Digital Services / IT (AI)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite role

Salary: $155,600–$233,400 base salary per year, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a sourcing team supporting Software, IT, AI, infrastructure, cloud, and digital services categories.
• Set category strategies based on data and analysis to deliver financial, quality, supply, and risk-mitigation outcomes.
• Oversee strategic supplier relationships, governance frameworks, performance metrics, innovation reviews, and risk assessments.
• Lead contract lifecycle management and negotiate SOWs, SaaS and software licensing agreements, IT services contracts, AMS agreements, and enterprise cloud agreements.
• Optimize software licensing, renewals, rate cards, usage models, cloud commitments, and commercial governance.
• Partner with IT, Legal, executives, and other departments to translate scientific and technical requirements into sourcing strategies and commercial models.

Requirements

• 10–12+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supplier management.
• 5–7+ years of people leadership experience and a record of managing suppliers and outsourced development partners.
• Proven experience sourcing IT and software, managing complex supplier ecosystems, and negotiating SaaS, software licensing, and IT services agreements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, IT, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Strong analytical, communication, project leadership, negotiation, multitasking, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally; proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, pharma, biotech, or medtech.
• Knowledge of regulated industry requirements.
• Exposure to AI/ML, data platforms, or digital health technologies.
• Advanced degree such as an MBA or MS in Data Science or IT.
