TL;DR
R&D Sourcing Engineer IV (Aerospace): Managing procurement and supplier sourcing for military and commercial aviation mechanical components and assemblies with an accent on producibility, manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and ERP workflows. Focus on evaluating suppliers, performing source inspections, interpreting MIL-STD and ASME Y14.5 requirements, and coordinating information between design engineering, program management, procurement, and suppliers.

Location: 100% onsite in Inglewood, California, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or otherwise qualify as U.S. persons under ITAR requirements; dual citizenship is not permitted.

Salary: $140,000–$165,000 per year, based on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

  • Manage procurement and sourcing of mechanical components and assemblies for R&D programs.
  • Select suppliers based on engineering requirements, capabilities, capacity, and manufacturing suitability.
  • Act as the technical and procurement liaison between R&D design engineering, technical program managers, procurement teams, and suppliers.
  • Evaluate producibility, support source inspections, manage receiving, and handle non-turnkey parts.
  • Use ERP systems to navigate and support procurement workflows.
  • Support manufacturing and quality activities for machined components and subassemblies.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of procurement or sourcing experience with military, aerospace, or commercial aviation mechanical components and assemblies, or a BS in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Manufacturing Engineering plus at least 5 years of relevant manufacturing or sourcing experience.
  • Experience with traditional metallic manufacturing processes, including turning, milling, forging, extrusion, plating, grinding, welding, and non-destructive testing.
  • Experience with ERP software; SAP is preferred.
  • Experience with MIL-STD documents and interpreting ASME Y14.5 drawings.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, effective communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control and special-program access requirements and be a U.S. citizen without secondary citizenship. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs is required.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of aerospace material manufacturing processes and their capabilities, strengths, and limitations.
  • Assembly-line or shop-floor experience.
  • Quality assurance experience, including inspection and disposition of nonconforming materials.
  • Ability to review CAD models and assist designers and vendors.
