Commissioning Project Manager, HV (BESS)

Location: Remote - California, with required onsite presence at project sites and frequent travel. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: $110,632–$138,290 per year.

What you will do

• Own commissioning scope, deliverables, schedules, resources, risks, documentation, and turnover across two to three concurrent HV or BESS projects.
• Develop commissioning execution plans, readiness criteria, milestone registers, resource forecasts, test procedures, and acceptance requirements.
• Coordinate construction, engineering, quality, operations, utilities, OEMs, customers, commissioning partners, and field specialists.
• Lead readiness reviews, pre-commissioning, functional, protection and control, communications, synchronization, performance, and acceptance testing.
• Manage energization plans, switching, LOTO, grounding, permits, operational boundaries, safety requirements, and system turnover.
• Track progress, costs, constraints, deficiencies, corrective actions, reporting, closeout documentation, and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of progressive experience in commissioning, startup, testing, construction, operations, or project delivery for utility-scale electrical facilities, including substantial HV substation or BESS experience.
• Experience owning technical project scope, schedules, resources, stakeholders, risks, issues, documentation, and delivery commitments.
• Knowledge of HV and MV systems, protection and control, SCADA and communications, switching, grounding, LOTO, energized-work controls, and electrical testing.
• Ability to interpret contracts, specifications, IFC drawings, electrical diagrams, control narratives, relay documentation, OEM manuals, and interconnection requirements.
• Ability to lead cross-functional field teams, coordinate multiple concurrent workstreams, and communicate with customers, utilities, executives, and technical specialists.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to satisfy project access requirements, and willingness to travel and work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and outage windows.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, project management, or a related discipline.
• PMP, Certified Construction Manager, NETA certification, electrical license, or another relevant technical credential.
• Experience with EPC contracts, utility interconnection, owner or utility witness testing, commercial milestones, and change management.
• Experience with P6 scheduling.
