Bindery Operator (Print Manufacturing)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; onsite, full-time

Salary: $20.66–$27.50 per hour, with potential overtime, shift differential, call-in, and standby pay.

What you will do

• Set up, adjust, and operate auxiliary and automated bindery equipment, including cutters, collators, folders, stitchers, drills, binders, and gluing machines.
• Operate complex finishing units that process printed sheets into books, catalogs, manuals, directories, magazines, and other finished products.
• Adjust coordinated machine stations for folding, collating, cutting, milling, gluing, covering, stacking, and delivery operations.
• Inspect equipment for safety issues and maintain operating accuracy.
• Direct the production crew and monitor quality, output, and productivity.

Requirements

• Experience operating and adjusting complex bindery and finishing machinery, including perfect binders, multi-station collators, and folding units.
• Ability to interpret work orders and independently select equipment based on required machine operations.
• Ability to calculate distances, clearances, and fits when combining machines.
• Proficiency with standard and specialized tools used to adjust and maintain bindery equipment.
• Knowledge of coated and uncoated paper stocks, including their weight, color, machinability, and quality requirements.
• Ability to prevent machining impressions and maintain dimensional accuracy in finished printed materials.
