Maintenance Supervisor (Facilities Maintenance)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts; hybrid schedule with work performed at Harvard or Harvard-designated locations and in a Harvard registered state when working remotely.

What you will do

• Lead, select, develop, and supervise in-house tradespersons and outside contractors responsible for complex building systems.
• Direct mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance operations for a designated Harvard campus area.
• Manage CMMS work orders, preventive maintenance scheduling, work completion reporting, and customer communications.
• Supervise equipment diagnosis, troubleshooting, building performance, energy efficiency, and MEP project work.
• Prepare project proposals, work specifications, contracts, vendor plans, and service-related reports.
• Oversee regulatory compliance, worker safety, accident investigations, technical training, expenditures, and service improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience supervising trades personnel in a university or similar complex building-maintenance environment.
• Valid Massachusetts state trade license or Mass Maritime degree and/or related technical or vocational training and experience.
• Experience with computer-based mobile preventive-maintenance systems.
• Valid driver’s license and proficiency with Microsoft Office, handheld computing, equipment diagnostics, and bar-coding technologies.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; experience supervising a unionized workforce is expected as an additional qualification.
• Availability for on-site emergency response during off-hours; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• College degree or background in mechanical engineering or engineering technology.
• Massachusetts state trade license.
