TL;DR
Maintenance Associate (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing): Maintaining and repairing school buildings, grounds, and equipment with an accent on facility safety, preventive maintenance, and rapid work-order response. Focus on inspecting facilities, coordinating repairs and vendors, supporting custodial and grounds operations, and preparing buildings for severe weather.

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; full-time and 100% on-site. Regular Monday–Friday hours are established with the supervisor; occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Duties may require travel between school facilities using personal transportation.

This is an hourly position; compensation is not specified.

What you will do

  • Perform daily and weekly facility walkthroughs and proactively identify maintenance, safety, and custodial issues.
  • Complete routine and emergency repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
  • Respond to, prioritize, document, and close maintenance work orders within defined service targets.
  • Inspect roofs and facilities, complete required inspection items, and maintain records of work orders, inventory, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, school operations leaders, staff, vendors, and contractors to complete repairs and prepare spaces for events.
  • Support custodial and grounds work, school vehicle servicing, supply deliveries, storm preparation, fire-watch logs, and post-storm inspections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–4+ years of general building maintenance experience or experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or painting.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, hand and power tool safety, LOTO awareness, ladder and fall safety, and PPE.
  • Ability to use email and spreadsheets for communication and inventory or parts logs, and to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and work while standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working indoors and outdoors.
  • Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice to have

  • Experience in schools, libraries, healthcare, or other public settings.
  • Experience with work-order triage, ticketing systems, classroom safety, BMS, or CMMS mobile applications.
  • Willingness to cross-train across building trades; bilingual ability.
  • EPA 608 Type I or Type II certification, aerial-lift or forklift card, or relevant manufacturer training.
