Senior Systems Engineer – Fuel Cell Systems

Location: Albany, NY; facility in Slingerlands, NY. Full-time onsite role.

Salary: $95,040–$142,500 per year

What you will do

• Lead fuel cell system and subsystem architecture development, translating customer needs into verifiable requirements.
• Own requirements traceability, system-level risk management, trade studies, and energy management architecture for hybrid fuel cell and battery systems.
• Integrate mechanical, electrical, controls, thermal, and software disciplines while supporting compliance with NFPA, SAE, ISO, and UL standards.
• Lead FMEA, hazard analysis, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and system safety reviews.
• Execute stage-gate milestones from concept and design freeze through DV/PV, pilot build, and production release.
• Define and support system testing, validation, field reliability analysis, manufacturing readiness, and end-of-line test strategy.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience with complex products in power, energy, automotive, aerospace, industrial, or other high-reliability industries.
• Experience taking industrialized products from concept through production using Stage-Gate, DFSS, V-model, or an equivalent structured framework.
• Experience with formal requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, including full traceability to verification.
• Experience with thermal and fluid system integration, cross-functional FMEA and hazard analysis, and system-level testing.
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink; familiarity with hydrogen and fuel cell standards, PEM fuel cell or hydrogen systems, and LabVIEW is required or relevant to the role. Ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Experience with GT Suite, AMESim, or AVL CRUISE.
• Experience with Creo or equivalent 3D CAD in a systems integration role.
• Experience with hybrid energy management strategies and regulatory approvals or agency certification.
