TL;DR
Supplier Quality & Development Engineer (Manufacturing/Nuclear Quality): Developing supplier capability and improving quality, compliance, and sustainability across a global manufacturing supply base with an accent on supplier audits, new product introduction, DFM, PPAP, and corrective actions. Focus on leading 8D problem-solving, performing Commercial Grade Surveys and Item Dedication activities, and strengthening supplier processes against ISO 9001 and nuclear quality requirements.

Location: Bath, United Kingdom; full-time, with frequent travel to suppliers often exceeding 25% and occasionally reaching 50% during busy periods.

What you will do

  • Evaluate, audit, onboard, and periodically re-evaluate suppliers against quality and regulatory standards.
  • Support new product introductions through Design for Manufacture reviews, process development, and PPAP or sample approval activities.
  • Develop supplier improvement plans and drive corrective actions and long-term capability improvement.
  • Lead structured supplier problem-solving activities, including 8D, and support resolution of non-conformances.
  • Perform Commercial Grade Surveys and Commercial Grade Item Dedication activities for the Nuclear Quality Assurance programme.
  • Maintain supplier records, performance metrics, and stakeholder reporting while collaborating with Procurement, Category Management, Engineering, and Quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience planning and delivering internal or supplier audits.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 requirements covering document control, internal audits, manufacturing processes, inspection, non-conforming products, and measuring devices.
  • Experience with at least one relevant manufacturing or inspection process, such as casting, machining, electronics manufacturing, or injection moulding, plus understanding of DFM principles.
  • Written and spoken English communication skills are required. Competence with Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel is also required.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 80079-34 requirements for products used in explosive atmospheres.
  • Experience with ERP data, Excel-based data aggregation, or Power BI dashboards.
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis, including SPC charts and hypothesis testing.
  • Kaizen facilitator training and familiarity with Lean tools.
  • Nuclear industry experience.
