High School Apprentice Teacher (Education)

Location: New York, NY, USA; full-time, on-site role

What you will do

• Observe master teachers and co-teach with teacher-leaders to develop classroom instruction and management skills.
• Provide daily one-on-one and small-group tutoring, interventions, and student support.
• Assist with curriculum delivery, assessments, grading, and classroom responsibilities.
• Plan and periodically teach content across multiple grades, gradually taking on more responsibility.
• Use assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practices.
• Participate in student advising, enrichment classes, school events, trips, and supervision duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before employment begins.
• Eligibility for New York State teacher certification; candidates without an education degree must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.
• Commitment to educating urban students and alignment with the educational philosophy.
• Self-motivation, adaptability, personal responsibility, and willingness to work collaboratively.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Certification is not required at hire, but certification in New York State is required within a reasonable period after starting employment.

• Prior experience working in schools or urban communities.
