TL;DR
Systems Engineer II (Hydrogen Infrastructure): Supporting the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of hydrogen fueling infrastructure with an accent on mass and energy balance modeling, ROI analysis, and system-level testing. Focus on analyzing efficiency across deployed systems, defining requirements and controls documentation, and managing design and field changes across liquid hydrogen, cryogenic, pressure, and PLC-based systems.

Location: Albany, New York, United States

Salary: $79,200–$118,800 per year

Company

hirify.global develops hydrogen and fuel cell solutions, including GenFuel hydrogen fueling infrastructure deployed across more than 300 customer sites.

What you will do

  • Analyze hydrogen system efficiency using mass and energy balance models, quantify losses, identify degradation trends, and investigate thermal and flow capacity.
  • Build and defend ROI analyses for engineering changes, retrofit programs, and product improvements.
  • Develop and validate system-level diagnostic tests, including pass/fail criteria, documented methodologies, and data-driven verification.
  • Define and maintain system requirements and functional specifications for GenFuel components and assemblies.
  • Maintain cause-and-effect matrices, alarm testing procedures, control narratives, and other process documentation.
  • Execute the management-of-change process for design and field changes and collaborate with operations, field, and design engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, controls engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 0–5 years of engineering experience with demonstrated mass and energy balance modeling.
  • Experience building quantitative analyses such as ROI models, efficiency calculations, or test conditions from first principles.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, Excel-based modeling, or similar data analysis tools.
  • Ability to interpret P&ID drawings, troubleshoot systems, and analyze design changes.
  • Familiarity with process controls, instrumentation, or sensor-based systems, plus clear technical communication and independent work management.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hydrogen, electrolyzers, fuel cells, electrochemical systems, or cryogenic systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, PLC-based controls, or industrial instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of HAZOP and LOPA methodology for process safety analysis.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time, non-exempt hourly employment within the Service Engineering department.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance eligibility from the first day of hire.
  • 401(k) with a 5% company match and bonus eligibility.
  • Paid vacation, personal and sick time, plus paid holidays.
  • Wellness reimbursement, potential tuition reimbursement, family-building benefits, employee assistance, and referral programs.
