Automation Engineer II (Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing)

Location: Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States; approximately 25% travel, including up to 10% international travel.

Estimated salary: $111,000–$150,000 per year, plus eligible variable cash compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Support, troubleshoot, program, configure, and improve automation control systems used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environments.
• Work with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial computers, electrical controls, instrumentation, industrial networks, and process control platforms.
• Develop and support automation applications using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, AutomationDirect, iFIX, Wonderware, Ignition, WinCC, TIA Portal, and related systems.
• Diagnose control loop, instrumentation, networking, communication protocol, data cabling, and topology issues; reverse-engineer control logic and system architecture for service and root-cause investigations.
• Create, review, and execute test protocols, qualification documentation, technical evaluations, engineering designs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Partner with Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, customers, and Field Service teams on issue resolution, projects, training, commissioning, optimization, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Controls, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 3–5+ years of relevant automation, controls, or service engineering experience; equivalent technical experience may be considered.
• Experience supporting automation systems in biopharmaceutical, life sciences, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments; direct bioprocessing and process filtration experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming, HMI/SCADA configuration, industrial controls, instrumentation, I/O systems, industrial networking, data acquisition, and automation troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, AutomationDirect, Wonderware, iFIX, Ignition, WinCC, TIA Portal, C#, JavaScript, Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Boolean logic.
• Experience creating, reviewing, or executing engineering documentation, design documents, technical evaluations, manufacturing documentation, test plans, and qualification protocols for automated or cGMP process equipment.
• Working knowledge of ISO-regulated environments, cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP, ISA-88, and internal quality system requirements.
• Ability to lead or support technical projects, guide peers, communicate project status and risks, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, prioritization, cross-functional collaboration, and standard business software skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with SQL, Python, Java, or Visual Basic.
• Direct bioprocessing and process filtration experience.
