TL;DR
Automation Engineer II (PLC/SCADA): Supporting, troubleshooting, and improving automation control solutions for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environments with an accent on PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and regulated process control. Focus on reverse-engineering control logic, executing qualification protocols, resolving complex instrumentation and networking issues, and improving system reliability across customer and manufacturing operations.

Location: Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States; approximately 25% travel, including up to 10% international travel.

Salary: $111,000–$150,000 annually, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and, where applicable, equity.

What you will do

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial computers, instrumentation, electrical controls, and industrial networks.
  • Program, configure, modify, and support Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, AutomationDirect, and related I/O systems.
  • Develop and troubleshoot HMI and SCADA applications using platforms such as iFIX, Wonderware, Ignition, WinCC, TIA Portal, and C-more.
  • Diagnose control loops, instrumentation, industrial communication, LAN networking, data cabling, and network topology issues.
  • Review and reverse-engineer automation code, control logic, system architecture, and electrical designs for service, repair, upgrades, and root-cause investigations.
  • Create, review, and execute test protocols, qualification documents, technical evaluations, engineering designs, and manufacturing documentation while partnering with Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, customers, and field teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, automation, controls, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 3–5+ years of relevant experience; equivalent technical experience may be considered.
  • Experience supporting automation systems in biopharmaceutical, life sciences, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, HMI/SCADA configuration, industrial controls, instrumentation, I/O systems, industrial networking, data acquisition, and automation troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, AutomationDirect, Wonderware, iFIX, Ignition, WinCC, TIA Portal, C#, JavaScript, Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Boolean logic.
  • Experience with engineering documentation, test plans, qualification protocols, and cGMP process equipment, plus working knowledge of ISO, cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP, and ISA-88 requirements.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly, manage multiple priorities, support technical projects, follow EHS and PPE requirements, and travel for implementations, commissioning, diagnostics, and system optimization.

Nice to have

  • Direct bioprocessing and process filtration experience.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Java, or Visual Basic.
