Principal Engineer Transmission System Planning (Hybrid)

Location: Hybrid, based out of Hartford, CT, Berlin, CT, or Westwood, MA. Employees must work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and may be required to work up to five days in the office when business needs require.

Annual salary: $150,890–$167,660, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead reliability and strategic scenario-based transmission planning studies across existing and forecast system conditions.
• Perform voltage, thermal, photovoltaic, transfer-limit, short-circuit, electromagnetic transient, and stability assessments.
• Model and evaluate AC transmission lines, HVDC, battery storage, FACTS devices, photovoltaic generation, electric vehicles, and inverter-based resources.
• Review stakeholder data and assumptions, develop reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions, and communicate findings through reports and presentations.
• Coordinate with ISO-New England, transmission owners, and internal engineering, operations, substation, and distributed energy resource groups.
• Act as a subject matter expert, develop planning standards and methodologies, train junior engineers, and represent Eversource on industry committees.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in engineering or science required; Ph.D. in engineering preferred.
• At least 10 years of specialized experience in transmission planning, software simulations, and inverter-based resource modeling.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, bulk power system planning, HVDC, inverter-based resources, and weak-grid simulations.
• Experience applying NERC TPL, NPCC, and ISO-New England planning procedures.
• Proficiency with PSSE, PSCAD, and Microsoft Office 365; PE license preferred.

Nice to have

• Programming experience with Python or VBA.
• Experience with ASPEN Oneliner, EMTP (ATP), TARA, or PI Processbook.
• Ph.D. degree or PE license.
