Principal Platform Engineer, Core Platform (AI)

Location: New York, NY; requires 4 days per week in the NYC office

Salary: $225,000–$325,000 per year in target base compensation at commencement of employment

What you will do

• Own the Core Platform team's technical direction, roadmap, intake, prioritization, and delivery planning.
• Architect and govern a federated GraphQL supergraph, including subgraph onboarding, schema contracts, caching, and persisted queries.
• Build authentication and authorization for human and AI-agent identities using scoped, short-lived, audited credentials.
• Design and operate the centralized event substrate, including schema governance, dead-letter conventions, and asynchronous service integration patterns.
• Lead the strangler-fig migration and deliver a real-time world model state layer based on stream processing and a low-latency state graph.
• Maintain reliability through SLOs, monitor-gated deployments, incident leadership, and on-call participation while guiding architecture decisions and vendor evaluations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of platform or distributed-systems architecture at company scale.
• Hands-on experience with GraphQL federation and event streaming systems such as Kafka, including design, schema governance, and production operation.
• Experience with agentic tooling ecosystems, MCPs, harnesses, agent orchestration, and AI-assisted software development.
• Technical leadership without direct people authority, including alignment across teams and mentoring Staff and Senior engineers.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and/or Python services, Postgres, and AWS managed primitives.
• Ability to work 4 days per week in the NYC office and operate production-critical systems in a regulated environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Flink, Spark, KsqlDB, or similar stream-processing technologies and graph databases.
• Knowledge of FHIR, HL7v2, and HIPAA-regulated healthcare engineering.
• Experience as a people manager for Senior or Staff engineers.
• Experience leading a strangler-fig migration or large platform cutover.
• Familiarity with domain-driven design or event storming.
