AI Data Platform Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $135,000–$170,000 annually

What you will do

• Define the target-state architecture for enterprise data platforms across ingestion, storage, processing, governance, and consumption layers.
• Establish standards for data modeling, schema evolution, partitioning, file formats, storage organization, data contracts, and data products.
• Architect lakehouse, warehouse, and streaming solutions using platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Iceberg, Delta Lake, and Hudi.
• Design reliable and maintainable batch and streaming pipelines while balancing latency, cost, and operational requirements.
• Lead governance, lineage, catalog, security, disaster recovery, multi-region, and high-availability strategies for critical data assets.
• Partner with ML, BI, product, data engineering, and architecture teams; lead architecture reviews and mentor technical staff.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States; the role is 100% remote within the U.S.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 8+ years of data engineering experience, including significant architecture experience and leadership of large data platform initiatives.
• Deep expertise in at least two major data platforms, such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Strong knowledge of lakehouse architectures, modern table formats, streaming systems, data modeling, governance, lineage, catalogs, cloud platforms, networking, identity, and cost optimization.
• Production-scale experience with Spark, Flink, or Kafka, along with strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with data mesh or data product architectures.
• Familiarity with dbt Semantic Layer, Cube, or LookML.
• Exposure to regulated industries with data residency or audit requirements.
• Cloud or platform certifications in Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Public talks or writing on data architecture.
