TL;DR
Field Engineer I (HVAC/Mechanical and Electrical Systems): Commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and documenting mechanical and electrical systems for packaged modular projects with an accent on field support, quality control, and O&M documentation. Focus on independently resolving equipment and controls issues at domestic and international job sites, creating red-line drawings, and verifying compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and safety requirements.

Location: Houston, TX (TAS-Cullen HQ); full-time onsite role with approximately 80% domestic and international travel to job sites.

What you will do

  • Provide field support, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit services for mechanical and electrical project systems.
  • Direct and document mechanical and electrical commissioning, including creating legible red-line drawings and coordinating project handoff from construction.
  • Compile O&M information and help prepare final IOM manuals throughout design, construction, and project closeout.
  • Perform or oversee quality control checks and support Quality Assurance activities for completed equipment.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, production personnel, service technicians, consulting engineers, and client representatives.
  • Support equipment assembly and training for factory personnel, including cross-training in controls and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment, controls, communications, and computers when required.
  • Ability to read drawings and schematics and work independently at a job site.
  • Exposure to at least one PLC or building-controls brand and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Project.
  • Experience verifying compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices.
  • Ability to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites, work in field construction conditions, maintain a safe driving record, and obtain applicable safety certifications such as OSHA 10 General Construction and NFPA-70E.

Nice to have

  • HVAC trade school or apprenticeship training.
  • Military training or technical work experience in lieu of trade school certification.
